Post call: This is going to be the most important vote we take, because it will be a game-changer. I appreciate Ramos joining the call and answering the questions I had, and I understand the logic behind wanting to switch to daily changes. I've already expressed my concerns in previous responses above this one, but I can add a few more thoughts after the phone call. I know I've been the one that's always wanted everyone to be more active, and this is a way to be more active. I simply believe there's just no way of getting around the fact that the playing field will not be equal for all. I know Paul said we can adjust the lineups for every day of the week, days in advance, but there's no way you can predict days off, pitchers getting starts pushed back, etc, before the start of the week. That means that we'll have to be reading tweets, looking at lineups before first pitch to keep up with the Joneses. And I'm sorry, but someone on the east coast at 6:45 pm will have an easier time of doing it that someone in the west coast in the middle of the day at 3:45 pm. Yes, we all have cell phones, but we may not have the time to check it if we're working on something. Not everyone will be on a level playing field. There will be days I won't be able to check my lineups before the games have started. I simply won't have the time to do it. And unless my opponents are willing to not make changes the days I can't make changes, I'm now at a disadvantage. God knows how many hours I've spent answering emails or sending text messages as commissioner, but I do it late at night when I'm done with work. It's not about the willingness to dedicate time to the league, it's about the fact that it will require specific times on a daily basis that I simply can't commit to.
I believe that with the rules we currently have in place, every owner has the chance to field a competitive team by preparing for the draft during the off-season, having a plan of attack during the draft, setting aside 10-15 minutes on the weekends to set a lineup for the week ahead, making smart waiver pickups on Saturday and/or Sunday, and by engaging other owners in trade talks to acquire players to help your roster.
